Mulugu: Almost all the habitations are being supplied drinking water under the State government’s flagship programme ‘Mission Bhagiratha’ in the district.

While there are a total of 505 habitations in nine mandals in the district, water is being supplied to 496 habitations, according to the Rural Water Supply (RWS) officials.  The project was taken up in 2014 with an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.

While the construction of a total of 381 new overhead tanks was taken up under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme, 378 have been completed and only three are under progress. On other hand, the officials have repaired a total of 224 existing overhead tanks and 1036.78 km pipeline was laid in the district.

The restoration of the damaged CC roads was completed for the length of 42.29 km against the total of 44.84 km. The total number of tap connections is 84,587.

Speaking to Telangana Today, District Collector S Krishna Aditya said that he had conducted a meeting with the RWS officials recently and directed them to ensure water supply to all the habitations by filling the gaps, if any.

“New colonies at the villages and double bedroom houses constructed in the district should also be supplied with the water,” he said and added that all the government schools, colleges, government offices and Angawandi centres should also be given the tap connections under the Mission Bhagiratha programme.
