Hyderabad: The BJP accused the Congress government in the State of betraying farmers in the name of the crop loan waiver and other promises.

The MPs and MLAs of the BJP held a 24-hour protest to force the State government to fulfil the promises made to the farming community, especially the crop loan waiver scheme, at the Dharna Chowk, Indira Park on Monday. The party has resolved to stand by the farmers in ensuring they get justice.

Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind accused the Congress of deceiving the farmers by not implementing the crop loan waiver fully and delaying the implementation of other promises made to the farmers. The loan waiver promise was a key component of the Congress party’s “Warangal Rythu Declaration”, but so far it had not provided loan waiver amounts to all the farmers, he alleged.

BJP Legislative Party leader A Maheshwar Reddy alleged that Congress falsely stated that it had fully waived farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh per family in three instalments. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy promised to waive the loans of 70 lakh farmers and allocate Rs.40,000 crore for the purposes. However, the Cabinet sanctioned Rs.31,000 crore and only Rs.26,000 crore was allocated in the budget and finally, only Rs.17,000 crore was released, he alleged.

Mahbubnagar MP and BJP National Vice President DK Aruna alleged that during the assembly election campaign, the Congress promised to waive the loan without any conditions, but after coming to power it started imposing conditions denying a large number of farmers the benefits.
