Hyderabad: The alleged suicide of a 23-year-old woman from Warangal in her hostel room in Chikkadpally here has brought out the true colours of Opposition parties in Telangana, right from the Congress to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bahujan Samajwadi Party, with all three pouncing on the incident and without an ounce of heart or shame, attempting to politicize it and score brownie points against the State government ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.

All the three, without waiting to know the actual reason that provoked the alleged suicide, made serious attempts to link the recent postponement of the Group II examinations to the suicide and went on record blaming the State government for the suicide, stating that it was because the examinations were postponed that the woman had ended her life. The police later confirmed that the woman was allegedly cheated by a youngster, which could be the main provocation for the extreme step.

It did not take long for netizens and the public to call out the hideous game by the Opposition parties, with many pointing out that these three parties themselves were vociferously demanding postponement of the Group II examinations till recently.

TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, BSP State president RS Praveen Kumar and senior BJP leader K Laxman were the chief exploiters of the situation on Saturday, as their own tweets and reports on their demands show. The three had demanded postponement of the Group II exams, but when the suicide news came out, were the first to immediately turn around and point accusing fingers at the State government.

Praveen Kumar in fact had staged a hunger strike despite being under house arrest, demanding postponement of the exams, with he himself tweeting the same on August 12. On the other hand, Revanth Reddy’s tweet on August 10, which is still available on his X (formerly Twitter) timeline, shows that he had said that the examination was being held without giving jobseekers time to prepare before the election, which he alleged the government was doing aiming for “votes and seats”.

“I demand the government to take a positive decision on the demand of lakhs of people for postponing the Group-II exams,” he had said then.

As for the BJP, apart from Laxman, who was among the first to reach Chikkadpally and start blaming the State government, the BJP’s former State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar had tweeted on August 6, supported the demand of postponing the Group-II exams and even demanded the TSPSC to reschedule the exams.

The suicide of a hardworking student, Kum. Pravallika, is an extremely painful news.

She was diligently preparing for goverment examinations since many months. But due to repeated cancellations and postponements of exams by the #BRS Govt, she has taken such extreme step.

“Met TSPSC GROUP II aspirants at Karimnagar who shared their concern over schedule of the exam. With a series of exams lined up they want the GROUP II to be postponed and need time for preparation. Clearly there is lack of coordination between various agencies. We demand that the exam schedule be prepared in a way that aspirants are not at loss,” (sic) he had tweeted then.

Laxman, on the other hand, apart from holding press conferences, also tweeted: “The suicide of a hardworking student, Kum. Pravallika, is an extremely painful news. She was diligently preparing for goverment examinations since many months. But due to repeated cancellations and postponements of exams by the #BRS Govt, she has taken such extreme step…” (sic) he said.

While it was the TSPSC that postponed the exams and were not able to conduct recruitment examinations since the Model Code of Conduct was in vogue, the political leaders purposefully kept quiet on that aspect and also on their own earlier demands for postponement of the exams, and instead tried to instigate the public and Group II aspirants once again to score political points against the BRS.

As for the Congress, on August 10, when Group II aspirants staged a protest before the TSPSC office here, Congress leaders Addanki Dayakar, Congress official spokesperson Md. Riyaz and National Students union of India (NSUI) State president Venkat Balmoor had participated in the protest. Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) president M Kodandaram had also participated in the protest. The Congress leaders later submitted a petition to Board Secretary Anita Ramachandran asking to postpone the exams.
