Warangal Urban: Demanding that the State government implement 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) in educational institutions and public services in the State, the EWS Federation will hold a roundtable conference at Prof Jafar Nizam Hall at the SDLCE building on Kakatiya University (KU) campus in Warangal on January 3.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, EWS Federation leader Namilokonda Kiran Kumar and other leaders of the EWS Federation found fault with the State government for not implementing the EWS reservation though the Centre had brought about an act two years ago for the benefit of the poor among the Reddys, Brahmins, Velama, Vyshya, Kamma, Kapu  of Hindu religion and Sayyads and Patans in Muslims, who are now in Open Category (OC).

“We demand implementation of EWS reservation at the earliest,” Kiran Kumar said, adding that the roundtable conference would discuss the future course of action to mount pressure on the State government to implement the EWS reservations.

“I appeal to intellectuals, students, and others to participate in the conference and give their opinion,” he said. A PIL was also filed in the Telangana High Court on Monday seeking direction to the State government to implement the reservation in educational institutions and public services in the State, he said, adding that it was submitted that students and aspirants to various government jobs from EWS were losing opportunities due to the State government’s alleged inaction. The other members of the EWS Federation said that the State must empower tahsildars to issue EWS certificates, which would enable candidates secure admissions into national educational institutions and jobs in Central services.
