Indian expats from celebrate Dasara with cultural festivities in Dammam

Children dressed as characters from the Ramayana performed a short drama depicting the festival. In addition to Dasara, the Telugu community also celebrated Bathukamma, with many Andhra families coming together to honor the floral festival.

Jeddah: The Indian expatriates, mainly from Andhra Pradesh celebrated Dasara recently in the port city of Dammam in Saudi Arabia by marking a spectacular culmination of the 10-day festivities filled with rituals, songs, dance and a variety of cultural performances.

Dressed in traditional attire, dozens of devotees, mostly women thronged the venue to bid farewell to Navadurga, principal deity of the festival. The Telugu women in Al Khobar area of the province arranged a cultural show that themed the challenges girls face in the society, and to promote their empowerment, Telugu NRI community organization, SATA Dammam’s women team, presented an impressive cultural performance as an ode to Navadurga to spread the message of power of Durga Devi.


The children wearing costumes of different characters of Ramayana played a short drama depicting the festival. Along with Dasara, ‘Bathukamma’ celebrations were also concluded by the Telugu community where many Andhra families joined together to mark the floral festival.

SATA Dammam leaders Vishal and Pavitra along with Leela, Vijay Kishore and Sandhya Gouri oversaw the arrangements, according to organisers.

The Telugu community living in the area is largely engaged in the oil and gas sector and vibrant among their compatriots.
