Jeddah: Desperate NRIs from Oman who are stranded in India can heave a sigh of relief as flights are set to resume soon following air bubble agreement to operate special flights between the two countries.

The air bubble agreement will allow passengers with valid visas to travel between the two countries.  Under the agreement, airlines will be permitted to serve eleven cities including Hyderabad twice a week, according to Omani civil aviation authority.

While Salam Air, the country’s private airline, will operate flights to Hyderabad and five other Indian cities from Muscat, Oman Air, the national carrier of the country, will operate flights to three Indian cities. Hyderabad, however, is not included in its destination.

Scores of Telangana NRIs, who traveled home for vacation and emergency, have been stranded in home following suspension of the flights between two countries as result of pandemic.

Oman had shut its airports for civilian flights in March as a preventive measure to spread coronavirus. However, it allowed special repatriation flights where some thousands of NRIs returned from the country.

With air bubble agreement now NRIs who are stranded in India can return to the country.
