It is a crucial phase for several youngsters in Telangana with notifications for jobs all set to be released by several government departments. Amid the tight competition, some job aspirants during their preparations for recruitment tests could feel prone to anxiety and stress.

Dr Diana Monteira, PhD in psychology and director of Hyderabad Academy of Psychology, underscores the importance of staying determined and focused towards the goal. “Students can write their goals down in bold font on a paper and place it at a spot they regularly access. It plays a major role in reminding and motivating them to get closer to their goals,” she advises.

How to stay focused

Students should cut off all external communications and distractions like phone notifications, social media apps, digital streaming platforms and so on and stay determined towards learning the subjects. It is also important to tune your minds — cut other entertainment activities like hanging out with friends for long time.

Also, you should be prepared about the timeline attached to the preparation which could spread over months in different phases. Then comes the current understanding of the subjects and finding the right sources for better learning— like attending coaching classes or group studies. You have to make a daily routine for yourself and adhere to it strictly. Only if you have a certain number of study hours dedicated — with small breaks for the brain to relax — it is easier to convince yourself to study.

Managing Stress

It is normal to feel the fear of the examination and anxiety of the competition, points out Dr C Veerender, a psychologist at You and Me Counselling Centre.

“It is important to first believe in your capabilities and not compare yourself with others. This comes only if you gain confidence in yourself which comes with having a good grip in the subjects,” he says.

Veerender has also penned a book in Telugu called Vijayaniki Dari Idi that focused on managing stress and anxiety for competitive exams, adding that one can also practice breathing exercises which might offer relief. MEMORY POWER After a round of preparation, give a break and later check if the content is there stored in the memory or not! This exercise could help you not update the content but also make you go for revision if you do not feel satisfied with the preparation.

Study Patterns

While a few students might be day makers and there are other sets of students who might be focused only during the nights as there will be less distraction. So it is important to understand what works best for you and adhere to that timeline.
