Khammam: Large-scale protests have been staged by the BRS party workers across erstwhile Khammam district on Sunday against the Congress government’s failure to extend Rythu Bharosa to farmers in kharif season.

Farmers and BRS workers staged dharnas and rasta-rokos at Yerrupalem, Nelakondpalli and Madhira mandal headquarters in Khammam district and at Manugur, Yellandu and Tekulapalli mandal headquarters in Kothagudem district.

Senior leader Dindigala Rajender and former MLA B Haripriya took part in the rasta-roko and burnt an effigy of Congress government at Yellandu. Speaking on the occasion the leaders exposed the series of failures of the government in supporting the farming community.

Rajender said that the government cheated farmers by failing to extend the Rythu Bharosa it promised during Assembly elections. Sadly Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao himself made a statement to this effect.

Former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao during the last Assembly elections warned the farmers that if Congress came to power, the government would stop Rythu Bandhu and just like he said the Congress government cheated the farmers, he noted.

There was a need to explain the deceptive policies of the government to the people at the grassroots level. Chandrashekhar Rao during his tenure took care of the farmers, but the Revanth Reddy government, which came to power with false promises doing away existing schemes instead of introducing new schemes, Rajender added.
