Representatives from the transgender community Simran, Imtiyaz, Chandramukhi, Vyjyanti Mogli and Asifa highlighted various problems faced by the community including lack of education, no access to employment, inability to find houses to rent, intimate partner violence, harassment on the street and intra-community violence.

Sunitha Krishnan said, “The transgender community is not a homogenous group and consists of varied factions. Marginalization by society has forced the community to beg or indulge in sex work. A comprehensive scheme or a policy needs to be initiated by the government to support transgenders in mainstream society.”

Also present were N. Prakash Reddy, DCP, Shamshabad, S.M.Vijay Kumar, DCP, Traffic, and C. Anasuya, DCP, Women and Children Safety Wing, and they reiterated the need to find solutions within the framework of the law and urged the community to report any missing cases.

The Cyberabad Commissioner, V.C. Sajjanar, announced the setting up of Transgender Desk and gave assurance that the grievances of the trans community will be addressed there and also assured that their issues will be taken to the government for resolution.

Additionally, he also urged the transgender community to act within the framework of the law and warned them to not harass the public in any way. “Stringent action will be taken as per law if any transgender person is involved in illegal activities. The public can dial 100 or WhatsApp on 9490617444 if there is any issue regarding transgenders,” said Sajjanar.

Kavitha, ADCP Crimes, Krishna Yedula, General Secretary of Society for Cyberabad Security Council and other police personnel of Cyberabad Commissionerate, were also present.
