With the present senior officer bearers of the Medical Council recognizing the need to curtail quackery, this is for the first time in Telangana State that a concerted effort has been launched in collaboration with TS Drug Control Administration (TSDCA) to take legal action on individuals with no MBBS degree but practicing allopathy.

The DCA teams raided the premises of Madoju Kanakachary, Nelamarri village, Suryapet district and seized 24 varieties of various kinds of drugs

The TSDCA conducted a raid at the premises of Md Gulam Rasool in Chowdarpally village, Gandeed mandal, Mahabubnagar district, where 49 varieties of medicines were illegally stocked, and he was found practicing medicine without proper qualifications. Similarly, the DCA officials raided the premises of another unqualified practitioner, Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin, in Sugur village, Pebbair mandal, Wanaparthy district, seizing 38 varieties of medicines that were unlawfully stored for sale.

According to DG, TSDCA, V B Kamalasan Reddy, the label of the product bears a misleading claim stating that it treats irregular menstruation, menopausal syndrome and amenorrhea (menstrual disorders).

Overall, this year (between January and September), a total of 392 cases are initiated by the TSDCA for various kinds of offenses

During the raid, the DCA seized six varieties of expired drugs, and one institutional supply drug with a total worth of Rs. 55,000.

The agreement for the collection of plasma etc from blood centres for analytical purposes and study samples shall be maintained by the BA/BE Centres/CROs along with relevant SOPs and labels used in this regard.

The drugs Itrarole-100 (Itraconazole Capsules BP 100 mg) and Itrarole-200 (Itraconazole Capsules BP 200mg) fall under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013

During the raids carried out at the said two premises, DCA officials detected over 150 varieties of medicines and seized Rs 2.30 lakh worth of medicines.

The product Meropenem Injection IP 1gm sold under brand name ‘Meroamp 1000 Injection’ and the product Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg sold under the brand name ‘Itradol-200 Capsules’ are under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of the products should be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by NPPA, DCA said.
