Adilabad: People are living in the grip of fear following movement of a tiger in the agriculture fields of certain villages in both Utnoor and Jainoor mandals on Monday.

A tiger was sighted while crossing a road near Laltekdi village in Utnoor mandal on Sunday night, panicking motorists. It was suspected to be heading towards Jainoor mandal. It earlier injured an ox belonging to one Kumra Anand Rao on the outskirts of Rajulaguda village in Utnoor mandal. It slipped into the forests when Anand raised an alarm.

However, villagers from Utnoor and Jainoor were on the edge following movement of the tiger in the farms and forests abutting their habitations. They requested the officials of the Forest Department to take steps to divert the big cat deep inside of forests, to prevent loss of humans and cattle. They were not harvesting the cotton crops fearing being attacked by the tiger.

The forest officials advised the dwellers of forest fringe villages to avoid sudden confrontation with the tiger. Officials suggested villagers not to venture deep inside of the forests for grazing cattle and sheep. They requested the villagers not to harm the tiger by setting electrified fences meant for protecting crop damage by wild boars and herbivores.

The officials said that steps were being taken to ensure smooth passage for the tiger. They stated that CCTV camera traps were installed, while animal trackers were deployed to track the movement of the big cat. They informed that a fully grown male tiger from Maharashtra drifted towards forests of Adilabad in search of territory and a female companion.
